What started out as a normal
class trip ends in disaster…

PROLOGUE

NO WAY! What started out as a normal class trip to our special mountain - Kakepuku - has ended in disaster. After all the learning, careful planning, survival rolling Waikato dairy land, Parked up and got ourselves into our expedition teams. With backpacks stuffed with only the most important survival gear, we wandered off across the farmland towards the verdant slopes and regenerating bush. Some of us moaned at the growing heat and the ever-steepening slope. Others reveled in the freedom from the classroom, surrounded by birds, native trees, and our ever-rambling teacher, Mr. Woody. Once across the farmland, having encountered the odd inquisitive jersey cow and skittish newly shorn ewe, we clambered across the last bit of number eight wire and entered the bush zone. Even though it was shadier, the incline made it hard going. Rewarewa and kohekohe sheltered us from the scorching sun, but our shirts were soon drenched with sweat. We all sighed with relief we broke into a clearing and got to sit down to rest and drink our precious cool water. Mr. Woody was going on about fantails, wood pigeons, skylarks and various obscure invertebrates when suddenly the ground started to vibrate, the birds which had become silent without us noticing started fluttering frantically to lift off before it got worse. Then the earth beneath us then began to violently shake. I looked up to see a towering wall of water heading towards us. Then, CRASH!!!! The wave covered the whole Waikato basin with water.

CHAPTER 1

THE CAMP

‘OH NO!’ everyone screamed as they scattered over the mountain. Everyone ran except Elidor, Sindri, Davyn, Catriona and I. We decided to stick together for safety reasons. When the rumbling stopped, we all sighed in relief. “FFFFEEEEEEUUUUUUFFFFF” said Sindri. “We should go find a place to set up camp.” Elidor suggested. We all agreed and followed Davyn through the dense bush until we came to a clearing. “Perfect” Catriona (Cat for short) said. She got out 3 pieces of rope and a tarpaulin. Sindri scrambled up Davyn’s shoulder and tied the ropes to the ends of 3 trees. ‘I’m going to go and get some fire wood.’ I said.
“Troy! Wait up!.” Sindri called. I waited until Sindri came. “I’ll go with you.” He said enthusiastically. “OK.” I said.
We traveled through the damp bush until we came to a tree we thought would burn the best. We got three thick branches so we could cut them up and use them later. Sindri suggested we go back to camp. I agreed. On the way back, we came across a sheep, grazing peacefully on some green pasture. Not for long.
“SHHHH!! Be as quiet as you can.” I said to Sindri. I creep toward the sheep, hatchet in my hand… SWING! I hit the sheep, square on the neck and killed it straight away.
“YES!” I shouted excitedly. That was the first thing I had ever killed.
“Nice shot!” Sindri said happily.
We headed back to camp, carrying the things that we scored just then. I showed Cat, Elidor and Davyn what I had killed for dinner. Davyn took some matches out of his backpack. He then chopped the logs into even strips. He lit 3 of the strips. When all that was happening, Elidor, Sindri and I were skinning the sheep. I’ll tell you 1 thing, it was hard work! We finally ended up skinning the whole thing. Davyn then made some ‘forks’ out of some sticks. He then cut the sheep up and put it onto the forks. Once they were put on, we roasted it over the fire. Once the meat was finished, we ate it ravenously. The outside tasted dry, chewy and juicy. We were all tired. I decided to go to sleep. “Goodnight.” I said.
“Goodnight.” They chorused. I rolled out my sleeping bag, before I knew it; I was sleeping as if in the comfort of my own home.

CHAPTER 2

THE VILLAGE

MMMMMOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!
“What was that?” Elidor asks sleepily.
“I don’t know. It sounded like a horn.” Says Davyn. It appeared to me that he was already awake. Cat and Sindri were sitting up in fright. We packed up our sleeping bags, still thinking about the horn.
“Davyn? Can we go exploring?” Sindri asks with a excited expression.
“Oh alright.” He says finally. While we were walking, I was drawing a path back to camp. “WHOA!!!” Sindri says, looking up at the towering gates in front of us.
“What is this place?” Cat asks, wiping her fiery red hair out of her eyes.
“It looks like a pa site…” Davyn says wisely. “This is probably where the ghostly horn comes from.” Sindri says with another excited expression. Just as he said that, the doors to the pa site creaked open on invisible hinges.
“Cool!” he whispered. He ran into the pa site not caring about the dangers that may be there. “SINDRI!!!!!!!!!” Elidor yells. He took 3 giant swift steps and caught the boy by the collar of his shirt. “What were you thinking??!!!” Elidor says angrily. I walked back a few paces and backed into Cat. In the middle of the pa site, there was a fire, and around the fire… were ghosts? No. They were Maori villagers. Except they were ghosts. So let me make that clearer. Ghostly Maori villagers.
“Hello travelers.” Says the leader of the village (we guessed) without looking up.
“Uhh… Hello” I say “We-…” but Elidor cut me off before I could say anything more. “I think we should approach them more safely.” He says worriedly.
“You do not have to fear us. We are the peaceful tribe or village of Mount Kakepuku. We have lived here for thousands of years.”
“WOW!!!” Says Sindri with a wide grin. “I wish I could live that long!”
“There was a myth about how Kakepuku became a mountain. Would you like to hear it?” he didn’t seem to notice Sindri’s sudden excitement. Before anyone could say anything, Sindri says: “Yes please!”
He always seemed to be in a good mood.
“Well,” he began, “hundreds of thousands of years ago, there lived a Maori warrior and an evil alien octopus. Can you see the moon?” he asked. We all looked up at the sky. It was then that I saw the sliver of silver on the moons surface. Then I noticed two other things… the sky was a bruised yellowish purplish colour and on the moon… were tentacles…
“The octopus rampaged through our village, destroying everything in its path. The warrior summoned the powers of Tane Mahuta, the god of the forest, to cover the octopus with dirt and mud to hold it down. It was then a mountain.
Some people say he cut a hole in the top and threw an enchanted spear down the hole, killing the octopus. Some say it was still sending distress signals back to its home planet. Then about three hundred years later, the octopuses flesh rotted away into the mountain.”
“Oh and I forgot. The warrior had an amulet that gave him the powers of Tane Mahuta. That is lost forever.”
Then a lady came out of a mud hut with some kumara in a basket. I don’t like kumara much, but I ate it as if I loved it. I just realized it was getting dark. The chief suggested tat we stay in a hut in their village. We all agreed and went into a hut. The walls were thick with dry, hard mud, and the roof had straw. All in all it was kind of alright. It was definitely big enough to fit all of us in there. So we rolled out our sleeping bags. Without noticing it, as soon as I got into my sleeping bag, my eyes fluttered a few times before they closed. I was asleep.

CHAPTER 3

THE CREATURE

There was no horn blow… instead they had a villager come in and wake us up by clanking pots, pans and just general cutlery. “Just five more minutes.” Sindri muttered quietly. His eyes opened, and then closed slowly.
“WAKE UP SINDRI!!!” Davyn yells.
Sindri jumped in fright. “Ok, Ok, I was getting up anyway.” He murmurs.
“We’ve got to get back to camp.” I say.
Catriona was in the corner, brushing her hair with a wonky stick.
“Cat? Are you coming?” Davyn asks, swinging his backpack over his shoulder.
“In a minute.” She replied.
We packed up our stuff and went outside to see the chief walking out of his hut as well. We wonder over. Davyn thanked him for the accommodation and then set off for camp.
Once we got back to camp, we arrived to see it in tip top condition. But instead we saw… the tarpaulin lay in shreds, the ropes were all tangled and all the logs, that we spent valuable time stacking, were scattered across the ground.
“What’s happened here?!” Elidor asks in disbelief.
“Animal tracks.” Sindri says, examining the ground on his hands and knees.
“They look like pretty small animal tracks to me.” Cat says, kneeling beside the boy.
“Raccoons.” Davyn breathed.
“No the footprints are too big.” I say.
“Possums?” Davyn asks.
“Could be… no wait… It can’t because possums don’t live in forests.” I answer.
“Uhh…guys?” Elidor asked shakily.
“Not now Elidor. We’re trying to find out whom or what did th-.” But Elidor cut her off.
“Found it.” He says.
A giant feline type creature steps out of the bush. It had a fluffy yellow mane with darker yellow spots on it. Its huge mace-like tail swishing from side to side as its muscular body was getting ready to pounce. Cat drew out her dragon claws while Elidor drew his ivory handled daggers from their sheaths.
“RRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!” the creature roared as it pounced toward Elidor. He rolled to the side with lightning fast reflexes. Elidor threw his knife at the creature; it dodged to the side, forcing knife to wedge firmly between a vine and a tree trunk. Davyn drew his great sword and charged toward the creature. It dodged again and struck Davyn in the back.
“AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!” he screamed in agony.
“Davyn!!!” Cat screamed, rushing forward. With a war cry, she threw a dragon claw at the creature it howled and fell to the ground. Elidor took this as an advantage and charged towards the creature but tripped on a vine and his dagger went scattering across the ground.
While all this was happening, Sindri was casting a spell while I was getting ready to throw my makeshift fork at the creature. Sindri had finished chanting. It sent a fireball flying toward the creature. I hit it and killed it straight away.
“BOOYA!!!” Sindri exclaimed.
“Nice one!” I said, giving the boy a hi-5.
“Davyn!!!” Cat said worriedly. We all went to his side.
“Cat?” he whispered “Cat I’ve got a bad gash on my back.”
“Don’t worry Davyn, I’ve got herbs I my backpack. Ill heal that.” She said tenderly.
While Cat was healing Davyn, Elidor, Sindri and I were re-building the hut. We put all the logs back in their places. We used a spare sheet, which Elidor had, for a roof, we untangled the ropes and eventually we re-built the whole hut.
Everyone was tired. Cat tied up Davyn’s wound with a clean cloth. He said he was feeling a bit better. We all decided to get some sleep.
So we did.

CHAPTER 4

MUTATING

I suddenly awoke. I checked my watch. Half past 7. I decided to go exploring.
I packed my bag extremely quietly, so I didn’t wake my sleeping companions up. I left them a note saying I was out.
Then I set off for the regenerating bush. While I was walking, it felt to me as if I was being followed. I was starting to freak out. I kept swinging around with my hand resting on the handle of my hatchet.
Hours past. I decided to head back to camp… the only problem with that was I forgot which direction it was in. so I just followed the path I came from.
When I was walking through the brush, I tripped over a mysterious box. It had carvings of stickmen fighting each other with wooden spears. My hand suddenly slipped to the lid of the box. I opened it cautiously. All there was, was a vial with strange purple liquid in it. I closed the box and headed in the direction I came in.
I finally cut through some vines to see our hut again.
I came and saw Catriona and Davyn were still sleeping. But, Elidor and Sindri were awake. Sindri was trying to light a new fire, while Elidor sat on a log, carving something into a piece of firewood with his dagger.
“Where were you?!” Sindri asked worriedly, waving the note around.
“I went off exploring.” I said.
“Well you could have at least waked me up! I wanted to come too!” he said with a sad expression.
“I didn’t want to wake you up. You looked exhausted and it would have taken 5 marching bands to wake you up!”
I said starting to feel the anger boiling inside me.
Elidor was just sitting there as if nothing had happened.
“Well you could have at least tried.” He said, looking sad.
“I’m sorry Sindri. I didn’t know you were that eager.” I said. The anger seemed to fade away. That was the first time I ever saw Sindri in an un-happy mood. He was always so cheerful.
“It’s ok.” Sindri said, with that sad face still on his features.
“So it seems you two have things sorted out.” Elidor said as he stood up.
“I’m going to get some more sleep.” He said.
“Sindri can you keep a secret?” I asked him. The boy’s eyes widened. He nodded.
“Look at this.” I said, taking the box from my backpack.
I opened the box. He glared into it.
“Whoa!” he said. “Have you tried to drink it yet?”
“No. and I’m not intending to.” I said firmly.
“But what if it gave you mystical powers?” he asked eagerly.
“Hmmm… ill take my chances,” I said “If you’re so eager why don’t you drink it?” I asked with a sly grin.
“I would but you found it so I won’t.” He said.
“Should I just take a sip?” I asked.
Sindri gave a wide grin and nodded slowly.
“Ok here I go.” I slowly tip the contents of the vial into my mouth.
“AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!” I cried holding my waist. “Sindri!” I gasped. With that I fell to the ground writhing. I went behind a bush while Sindri went to wake up Cat. I felt this weird thing. I grew scales and gills. And I felt a if I couldn’t breathe. I touched my neck. It felt slimy. I looked down to see a huge tail growing. My scales were the colour of the liquid inside the vial.
I was mutating.

CHAPTER 5

THE OCEAN CITY

This could not have happened. I was mutating. Mutating! I can’t believe it. This whole thing must’ve been a dream. A very bad nightmare. I made my way to the ocean and plunged in. I felt as if I could breathe in there. I went right to the bottom of the ocean to find… a city… A city of mermaids and mermen. They greeted me with stares and not nice faces. As I made my way down the street, a big merman stopped me from coming any closer.
“Do you have an appointment with the king?” he asked
“Uhh… no… I am here because… actually I don’t know why I’m here sorry.” I said with frightened expression.
“Calm down Maddoc.” Said a strange but familiar voice.
“He looks harmless.” He said. Then he approached. His features were definitely human, his tail was long and scaly like mine, his hair was black and he had massive muscles.
“What is your name boy?” he boomed.
“Troy…” I said scarcely.
“Troy de Silva?” he said, his tone went down when he said that.
“Yes, how did you know?” I asked politely.
“It’s me! Darren! Your father!” he said with a slight hint of excitement.
“Dad? Is that really you?” I asked with a tinge of excitement.
“Come here son!” I swam as fast as I can into his loving arms.
“Everyone thought you died when that last tsunami came.” I said wearily, hugging him so hard that my arms began to ache.
“Well, everyone thought wrong didn’t they?” he said with a sly grin.
“But how did you become a merman?” I asked.
“I found this strange vial-” he said.
“With purple liquid in it?” I finished his sentence off.
“How did you know?” he asked.
“Well, the same thing happened to me.” I answered.
“Are you hungry? The Royal chef made his special lobster.” Darren said.
I nodded. “Yes please!” I said. And with that my stomach began to rumble.
As we made our way through the big iron framed doors, the chef, Vlad, was going in as well. He had a tuna on an iron tray.
We went to a table and sat down.
“So… how is things son?” He asked.
“Not so good… like right now… I want to be a human again dad. We got trapped on Kakepuku when the big tsunami struck. Davyn, Sindri, Elidor, Catriona, all of us.” I said sadly.
“Well, you will learn things better when you stay here longer,” He said wisely,
“Besides, we must get you trained up for the octopus’s attack.”
“How did you know about the octopus?” I asked with slight interest.
“The Maori chief told me 35 years ago.” He answered.
“So… how will I train?” I asked.
“The Royal guards will take you to their guards’ only gym.” He answered plainly.
With that, Vlad turned up with the lobster. It looked juicy and tender. We dug in.
About half an hour passed. Dad and I finished up.
“Go and get some sleep son, a maid will come shortly to collect you.” He said.
“Ok dad, goodnight.” I said. He kissed my forehead and swam off.
Fifteen minutes later, the maid came.
She had curly blonde hair with shining blue eyes. Her tail was the colour of fresh seaweed.
“Your room is this way sir.” She said. I didn’t like being called sir but it didn’t matter right now.
She led me down lots of squiggly passageways until she came to yet another iron framed door. It had a 3749 on the very top of it.
“Here is your room sir. I hope you have a great sleep. Goodnight.” Said the maid.
“Thank you. Goodnight.” I said.
I opened the door to see beautiful furniture such as:
A big king-size bed, massive walk in wardrobes and a study desk with an underwater lamp.
On the opposite side of the room I saw a door. I creeped over to it and opened it. It creaked on old hinges. I went in and saw a 2-metre shower, and a toilet. It was an ensuite.
I was so tired from the transforming that I decided to get some sleep. I pulled the covers over my head and went to sleep.

CHAPTER 6

THE LANDING

I checked my watch. It read 7:30am. I got up forcing my new tail to swim even though it was dead. I washed my face and brushed my teeth with my clean fingers. I went out the door and saw utter chaos. Everyone was swimming around chorusing “ITS HERE! ITS HERE!” I swam up to the nearest guard and asked him what was happening. He only said:
“The moon is full!” So I went to another guard and asked him. Thankfully he was more resourceful. He said:
“The moon is full and that means the octopus is going to ride the comet down to the sea! Apparently it’s going to crash land right on our city!” And with yet another cry, he sped toward the main gate. I went to see dad. He was sitting in his room with other guards.
“Troy, we need to train you now! I’m getting too old to fight the octopus with my trident.” With that, 3 guards took me out of his room and through the passages to the training field (I was guessing). The guard gave me a wooden sword and said one word.
“Fight.”
*

Catriona, Davyn, Elidor and Sindri were all screaming my name. No reply.
“Well we can’t just stand here like a bunch of maniacs screaming Troy’s name!” Elidor screamed.
“Elidor’s right. We have to go and look for him. Calling his name won’t do any good. He might be in trouble.” Cat said. She shot a worried glance toward Davyn.
“Alright, alright. Let’s go looking for him.” Davyn said finally.
“Ooh! Isn’t this exciting?!” Sindri suddenly exploded. “What if he got turned into a zombie! Or maybe a vampire! Or maybe even a-”
“SINDRI SHUT UP!!!” Davyn screamed.
“I’m sorry. I was just getting carried away.” Sindri sobbed.
“Sindri I didn’t mean it that way… I mean… I’m sorry.” Davyn said. He put a hand on the boy’s shoulder. “I was getting worried when you said all those things that’s why I yelled. I’m sorry if it hurt your feelings.”
“That’s ok.” He said wiping a tear from his eye with the back of his hand.
“So, who’s ready to go find Troy?” Elidor asked after all the commotion.
They all agreed. So they set off through the bushes, following any path they saw. They finally came to the oceans edge.
“We’ve searched everywhere! There is simply no sign of him!” Elidor exclaimed.
“Sindri. What was the last thing you two did together before he went missing?” he asked.
“Well, he found this vial… and in the vial was a purple liquid… he took a sip and started wheezing. He told me to go and get you because he couldn’t breathe. Then, there was nothing. He was gone.” Sindri answered.
“Maybe… Just maybe…” Davyn started, “Sindri. You said he was wheezing right?”
“Yeah…” he answered.
“Then he might not have been able to breathe on surface… which means…”
“He has mutated or been turned into a fish…” Catriona finished.
“You’re right!” Sindri said loudly. “Before I left, I saw his skin turn blue and he had a long blue tail! He was squirming around on the ground as well.” He finished off.
“Now what?” Elidor asked.
“We just wait for a miracle.” Davyn said and wondered off down the beach. Sindri looked up. He saw it for the first time. The comet. And on it he saw… the octopus…

*

My head was drenched in sweat. I still fought. I already won 7 fights in a row. This was the last one until I got to wield the trident. The most powerful weapon in the whole of the sea. I finally parried the blow and had my sword at the last mans throat.
“Congratulations Troy.” Dad emerged from the shadowy depths and held out a glass box. I opened the lid. There, in its cushion, lay the trident. Glimmering gold with pure silver tips.
Just as my hand reached out, there was a tremendous shaking. It had arrived.
I quickly grabbed the trident, got my armour on and went out into the open.

CHAPTER 7

THE LANDING

It landed with a gigantic thud. The size of 2 and a half earthquakes.
I readied my trident.
“Troy. Before you go out there, there is something I must tell you. The trident has a special power trapped inside it. The magical incantation for it to open is… “Nuitari siventhlo taritari” Said dad. I gave him a huge hug and went. “Be careful son.” He said in a fatherly tone.
“Goodbye dad.” I said, wiping the tear from my eye. I knew that this was going to be it. The day that I die.
I went out into the field. Thousands and thousands of guards stood, waiting to face the octopus. Everyone stepped aside. I made my way to the front.
The octopus was rampaging through the lonely streets, destroying everything in its path. Exactly as the Maori chief said. I whispered the mystical words under my breath. “Nuitari siventhlo turitaritui.” The trident began to glow. It pulsed through my arms and then down my legs. It felt as if I was being possessed.
Three lightning bolts came out of the tips of the trident. The octopus howled and jumped out of the water onto the land. I swam up to the surface. I shot yet another and another at the octopus. It was getting fed up and jumped high in the sky and landed square on me. It pushed me right to the bottom of the ocean and crushed me. All the guards reacted at this moment. They threw thousands and thousands of spears at the octopus. They seemed to stop in mid air. The octopus was using its psychic powers to stop them in mid air. The guards scratched their heads and shrugged. Then in the wink of an eye all the spears turned around and were plunged deep into their thrower’s heart. The octopus stormed out of the water.

*
“Davyn!!! Look!!! It’s the octopus!!! What do we do????!!!!!!” Catriona screamed.
“Just calm down cat! Everything is going to be alright!” Davyn yelled back. They were screaming because the octopus landed out of the water and onto the beach. To Davyn, it looked as if the octopus was floating. It started soaring into anything in its path destroying it completely “Sindri! Don’t you have a spell for this of something?!!?” Elidor asked.
“I do… I think… ill see my book of spells.” He pulled out a thick book from his backpack. He then flipped through the pages until he came to a page that had something about how to disarm psychic powers or spells. “Ahh, here we are,” He said, “This might take a while.”
“Oohh I have an idea! Why don’t we lure the octopus toward Sindri and then he can cast the spell?” Elidor suggested.
“Great idea. Let’s get to it… wait… how are we supposed to get that thing’s attention?” Davyn asked.
“Do what it hates… getting attacked.” Elidor answered.
“You guys will be fine. Cat will have you back… right Cat?” Sindri said, looking into Cats eyes.
“Uhh… sure… we’ll get right on it.” She answered. Finally, they got all their stuff together and set off.
They traveled through the hard, dry, path that the octopus had left. What used to be trees was now the same dry, hard mud they were walking on.
“There it is.” Elidor said with a hint of fear in his voice.
“Let’s go.” Davyn said bravely.
He charged. Wrong move. What Cat, Sindri, Davyn and Elidor didn’t know was the octopus had vision from every part of its head.
It lashed out with one of its tentacles. Davyn wasn’t ready.
It struck him on the temple. A white mystical glow came out of where he had got hit. It pulsed through his veins. He screamed. Since the octopus was concentrating on Davyn, Elidor and Cat snuck around the octopus. They went behind a bush. Cat pulled out her dragon claws while Elidor got out his daggers. They decided to throw the weapons but Elidor said they must approach this carefully. He snuck out of where they were sitting and stealthily went behind another bush. The octopus didn’t notice. Elidor took this chance. He threw his dagger. It stuck into an eye of the octopus, and octopus let out a horrifying scream.
“This cant be good.” Cat said. She shot a worried glance toward Elidor. He started to flee.
“Elidor!!!” Catriona yelled. She sprinted after him. They came back to the beach. On Sindri’s right hand was glowing with a red pulse; his forehead was covered in sweat, and he looked weak.
The octopus went away from Davyn and chased the two companions.
“Sindri!!! Hurry up the octopus is here!!!” Catriona screamed. Sindri looked up and grinned. With the final words, the glowing red pulse on his right hand was now soaring in the air straight towards the octopus. The pulse stopped slightly in front of it. The octopus stopped hovering and crashed to the ground thriving around as if it was getting tazered. It suddenly stopped. Catriona suddenly realized that its skin was changing colour. Its normal colour, purple, was now going to a greenish, yellowish, brownish colour. It screamed once more and its insides melted into a massive piece of muck.
“Sindri? Is it dead?” Cat asked with a slight hint of horror in her tone.
“Uhh… it should be… I’m not too sure… and where’s Elidor?” he asked.
“Oh no.” she said.
They raced toward the place where Davyn’s body lay. Elidor was crouching over it, sobbing softly.
“He’s dead isn’t he?” he asked finally.
“Ill fix that.” Sindri said enthusiastically. He looked weak as it is but still, he put a hand on Davyn’s muscular chest. Another light pulsed only this time it was white.
Davyn’s eyes blinked slowly.
“What happened?” he groaned.
“Oh… nothing much… you only charged toward an evil alien octopus without thinking!!!” Elidor yelled sarcastically.
“Well at least I’m not dead.” He countered.
“Well… you have Sindri to thank for that.” Cat said, brushing her hair out of her eyes.
The boy lay pale faced on the ground “You’re welcome.” He coughed.
“Take a rest Sindri. You’ve earned it.” Elidor said, wiping the tear from his eye.

CHAPTER 8

THE AFTERMATH

Everybody in the palace gathered around my un-moving figure. Dad was weeping softly while the royal paramedic was lifting my crushed body onto a stretcher. He took me up the stairs to the medicine room.
3 hours later, he went to my dad’s room to tell him that I was dead.
Soon, a guard rushed in to tell them that the water level was at a critical state and that they must evacuate as soon as possible.
Dad arranged a funeral. He gathered everyone together and it started fast.
The water level was nearly empty and they finally lowered the coffin into the hole.
Dad and the other guards gathered groups of 25 and set off to the sea.
He took one last glance at my burial and swam away.
*
“Look! The water level has gone down! We can go home now! Yay!” Sindri chimed happily. He and Davyn were feeling a lot better after they rested from the battle with the octopus.
Catriona was standing in the water. It was up to her ankles. She looked across the ocean. She wondered if she could find me. But she could never. I was at the bottom of the ocean lying in a coffin. Nobody would ever find me unless they started digging.
“Cat! Look at the water level!” Sindri shouted. Cat only smiled and looked towards Sindri.
“I know Sindri. It’s great that we are able to go home but… I’ve kind of gotten used to this place.” Cat said sadly.
“Yea… I have too.” Elidor spoke for the first time that day.
“I definitely have!” Sindri chirped.
“Well. I can’t say I haven’t.” Davyn said at last.
